This relates back to my above ground space where it is constructed by fragments - how he creates custom mosaics and arranges them on book covers, tags etc.
Gascoigne uses materials that ‘need to have been open to the weather.’ Thus she uses materials that are found – wood, iron, feathers, wire, road signs etc. She would work with these materials that she finds and combine them to form her artworks.
Strictly Ballroom (82 x 71cm) is constructed by sawing wood she would have found somewhere, and arranged loosely onto a grid.
Hall's Pett Level England (28 x 28cm) is a gelatine silver photograph It was a photograph taken during her the period of her early works (1974-1978). During this time, her work moved away from merely documenting, but more personal/less defined images.
I ended up making a ladder like component rather than actual 'stairs'. It would probably be made of steel - because I want the stairs/ladder to have a sense of lightness.
3rd Remake of Underground space [My 2nd week remake of models - both which were underground]
An overview of the complete model - In these images i wanted to show how the space is actually cut within the earth, and the contours of the earth would actually form the limits of how the viewer experiences the space.
In these images I wanted to highlight the contrasts between the thick and thin beams, as well as the cage like constructions. The person within the space would first experience the skeletal quality of the thin beams as he/she is in the indented part of the base. As the viewer walks out of the indented area to the stairs (as directed by the cage like constructions), they will notice the thick beams extruding from the earth and into the base itself. I think the thick beams would be 'skeletal' when juxtaposed to the large void area under the ground. The cage like constructions also serve to block the view of the viewer while they're experiencing the thin beams when they're within the indented area.

Well.. I don't have much to say here, but ended up scrapping this one :P Thought I would just include it here to show the 'evolution' of my underground space.
This is one of the drawings I did for my year 12 HSC art submission. I was exploring a person's ageing process/parts of their lives through different A1 drawings.
This is a cropped picture I've taken in early '07. I like the composition of the stuff inside, and how there are lines running in different directions.
This is the Contemporary Arts Center, located in downtown Cincinnati, designed by Zaha Hadid. It was completed in spring of 2003. I like how she uses different materials, e.g. concrete - creating a sense of mass, lighting combined with the building's translucent skin creating a sense of liveliness within the building.
